Report 4
November 2007:
Some Clan Branches
Return to Analysis Report Index
prior report next report
Report 4 in this intoductory series Attempts to use branching as a potential method for making our complex data more understandable. It does seem likely that there were multiple branches of the clan. Family and recorded history both speak to that fact. So rather than only view the data for the clan as a whole we can tentatively group profiles into clan branches based on some agreed upon context.

The charts below show the 25 marker analysis from Report 2 in graphical form to allow visual selection of clan branches. This is a reasonable approach since (a) the graphing program does that already as part of its graphing analysis; and (b) it is more reasonable for us mortals to do similar groupings visually on a graph than to try to spot cumulative patterns in grids of numbers.

The top chart is as graphed; The bottom chart includes grouping lines. These are not hard and fast groupings but only something to start with to see if it takes us down an analysis path that actually makes the data somewhat understandable.

Above: 25 marker profiles un-annotated.
Below: Annotated to show potential clan branches.
This shows seven groups. Three groups, 89776, 96471, and 84534 only have one participant each. 89776 might be close enough to 96288 to be part of that branch (which also includes the clan_modal value of this analysis). The branch that includes 97012 and 12109 could easily be split each into their own group.

More Participants! More geography (location of family lines in Ireland)! Join Now!
